All About audreykanread: Books & Binges
Helping you decide if you should finally read that book or watch that drama that’s been sitting on your list for years.
I’m the person who stays up past 2:00 AM on a weekday entirely because I keep on telling myself “just one more chapter” or “just one more episode.” Unfortunately, it usually ends with me crashing onto my bed, overthinking the visual imagery and character development for the rest of the night. It’s a terrible cycle - I know - but I can't seem to stop.
After years of ranting to my friends and later, posting numerous Instagram stories filled with brief tirades about all of the books and Asian dramas I was obsessing over, I realized that no amount of time or screen could fit my words. It was when I found myself writing a full-scale dissection of a novel in my Notes app that audreykanread was born.
Why the name “audreykanread?”
Audrey is of course me, the chocolate-obsessed student who procrastinates way too much for her own good, and to-do-list for that matter. The “kan” came from the Chinese character “看” which can mean “to watch,” but is also used for “to read” (the two pillars of this blog.) I thought I was being punny because I kan (can) read and I definitely 看 that extra episode I swear I won’t.
Audreykanread aims to be a space for other readers and drama-watchers to gather and chat, while also examining the storytelling. Whether you’re here for a quick recommendation or a deep dive into your latest obsession, you’re in the right place.
Note:
I'm a big fan of fantasy, sci-fi, realistic fiction, historical fiction, and classics - but I love reading other genres as well! +I'm always open to recommendations :) On the other hand, while I do have a couple I really like, I read less thrillers and horror. For dramas, I watch a mix of historical and modern!
You’ll see book reviews here every Sunday (with weekly Wednesday reviews hopefully coming soon), but my Asian (mainly Chinese) drama reviews are a bit more sporadic. Between the academic grind and the fact that most c-dramas happen to be 30+ 1 hour episodes of emotional turmoil, I’ll mainly post reviews of the ones that I truly can’t get over.
disclaimer!! none of my reviews are meant to disparage the authors in any way, I respect all of them, my reviews are simply my opinion :)
